چکیده

Data collected from shake table tests of two, approximately one-third scale, two story flat plate frames utilizing shear reinforcement, as well as data from prior tests, were evaluated to assess the inter-story drift ratios when punching failures occur for reinforced concrete and post-tensioned slab-column connections with and without shear reinforcement. The drift ratios at punching for the shake table specimens were approximately equal to values reported for quasi-static tests of specimens without shear reinforcement. The existing drift capacity model of the slab-column connections was re-examined based on the existing test data and available shear strength degrading models. Typically, these models include two parameters, the displacement ductility at which the shear strength begins to degrade and the rate at which the shear strength degrades. Using tests data, these parameters were determined for the slab-column connections. The revised models allow better prediction of the nominal shear strength of the slab-column connections when flexural yielding occurs, as well as provide a means to assess the need for shear reinforcement based on the slab span-to-thickness ratios.

Estimation of Punching Shear Capacity of Concrete Slabs Using Data Mining Techniques

Punching shear capacity is a key factor for governing the collapsed form of slabs. This fragile failure that occurs at the slab-column connection is called punching shear failure and has been of concern for the engineers. The most common practice in evaluating the punching strength of the concrete slabs is to use the empirical expressions available in different building design codes. The estima...

Shear Capacity of Reinforced Concrete Flat Slabs Made with High-strength Concrete: A Numerical Study of the Effect of Size, Location, and Shape of the Opening (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Nowadays, concrete with strength higher than 50 MPa is utilized due to the ever increasing need for higher strength and prolonged healing properties. Despite the widespread use of high-strength concrete, only a few research projects have been conducted on the punching shear strength of high-strength concrete slabs. Reinforced concrete flat slabs are widely employed in structural systems. The lo...

Improving the Punching Shear Strength of RC Slabs by FRP and Steel Sheets

This paper deals with the modeling of punching shear failure in reinforced concrete slabs using nonlinear finite element analysis. The 3D finite element analyses (FEA) were performed with the appropriate modeling of element size and mesh, and the constitutive modeling of concrete. The FE numerical models are validated by comparing with the experimental results obtained from tested specimens and...

Shake Table Tests of Reinforced Concrete Flat Plate Frames and Post-tensioned Flat Plate Frames

A research study was undertaken to assess performance of flat plate systems constructed with slab shear reinforcement under dynamic loads. The research program consisted of shake table tests and accompanying analytical studies of two, approximately one-third scale, two-story, two-bay, slab-column frames. One specimen was constructed with reinforced concrete (RC) slab, whereas the other specimen...

Analytical and Experimental Investigation of I Beam-to-CFT Column Connections under Monotonic Loading (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this study, the behavior characteristics of I beam-to-concrete filled tube (CFT) column connection is studied through experiment and finite element models under the monotonic loading. To validate the finite element modeling, at first, an experimental model is made and experimented. After validation of the finite element modeling, different models were created in the software. The studied par...
